What’s your Letting Agencies Purpose… and do you communicate it?

What the reason YOUR company exists…

What’s the Bloodline that runs through EVERYTHING you do…

Having a PURPOSE, makes everything YOU do make sense to you, your team and your customers… and by sharing this purpose, it will help keep you and your businesses services and operations in check…

I work with a coach personally, who was grilling me on this last week and it seems all along we have had a purpose, but never really communicated it, just LIVED it…

Me and My companies purpose it appears, has always been to “help others Be the Best they can be”. I have various companies, from letting agencies, a franchise, a training organisation and a media company, but within all to them the thread is the same and it starts from MY core belief and that is what drives all of them… to help others GROW.

But it wasn’t until I could answer that BIG question that many coaches ask… what is your WHY?

I struggled with this, even more so when asked “What are you PROUD of” I asked others, “What should I be proud of” and everyone kept suggesting stuff, that didn’t mean much to me, like “you wrote an Amazon Best Seller, You’ve built 5 businesses” “you were a property millionaire by 27” etc.… but I’ll be honest, all I could think of was, “that’s just what I do… that’s not what gets me motivated”

So what IS it, that gets me up in the morning?

And this is it… I love to make a difference, and I know this sounds corny, but let me explain…

It started off with DOG videos, I’m obsessed with watching videos of DOG rescues, where this poor dog is rescued in serious ill health and then get made better and the final scene is a happy dog with a waggy tail… this gives me a HUGE rush of happiness and nearly tears.

In just the same way, at work, I LOVE the fact that the person who stands next to me running my companies, was once a single mom, in a council flat, with zero prospects, and I helped her grow, learn and develop to now being a force to be reckoned with (even I’m scared of her now!) and she is now a business owner, director and head of compliance… not bad for someone with no o levels… and this story is repeated with team members throughout our companies…

I love the fact that we have changed lives, we have saved Tenants from unscrupulous landlords when they wouldn’t maintain properties, and by insisting on smoke alarms and Elec checks for nearly 20 years now (before it was ever regulation)

That I helped hundreds of landlords get into property investment, build portfolios and create a secure future…

That now, my personal MISSION is to help Independent Lettings Agents, through this most challenging time, and to help them evolve their businesses into what they need to be to get through the next 2-3 years through delivering training and sharing through social media for letting agents, and I absolutely LOVE IT!

But it’s the individual stories that matter, not the collective, (to me anyway) Its the agent that had been trading 3 years, managing 75 HMO properties and only turning over 13k PER ANNUM, I loved helping them turn their business around, the new starts, confused by what to focus on, the established business owners, stuck in a routine and bored, not knowing what to change or how and those scared of losing their income from the Tenant Fee Ban…

I’ve found my purpose, and unbeknown to me, it has been all of my companies purpose all along, to help our customers, our teams and more recently our INDUSTRY, be the best it can be and probably why I took the role of ARLA President, to reach more agents too.

So what’s YOUR purpose, what gets YOU up in the morning, what’s your WHY… and it probably won’t be about MONEY…

So how does this help your business practices? Think about it… If someone asked me to do something, that didn’t HELP the end user, I would get a bad feeling about it, and not want to do it, and therefore if this purpose goes through the company too, it will go a long way to helping people decide… Is this the right thing to do?
